International Platinum Solutions - Leadership and Management.
Can good leaders be effective managers?

The answer to this question is yes. However to be a good leader requires more personal dedication whilst becoming a good manager requires experience. If the question was posed, Can a good manager be a good leader? The answer could not be clearly stipulated as yes.

A good leader will instill in their employees a desire to excel in performance, will instill employee branding which in turn instills corporate branding. Good leaders a re born and groomed. They take personal pride in their appearance, health and professional development. No task is too menial for them. Due to the effects that they have on their staff, it is doubtful that they would be given the opportunity to perform such menial tasks. They are assertive when dealing with staff, have a very good self awareness and have a tendency to gain a very good appreciation of their staff's personal and professional circumstances. Through grooming and coaching they are able to become in tuned with their high personal qualities, transfer these to professional qualities and in effect become good managers. People who have the potential to be good leaders are only usually held back by their own limitations. Their self awareness is low, dedication hampered by doubt and application of themselves to their staff is not instilled with confidence. I have worked with and for some exceptional leaders during my career. It is hard to gauge if they are good managers as their staff just perform for them. Reducing the requirement for them to actually perform the function of management. Exceptional leaders very rarely have negative staffing issues. The only issues they are face are caused by external influences that are usually outside of their control and are issues that affect the whole of their industry as opposed to just their business. I have also worked with quite capable personnel that through effective grooming and coaching became exceptional leaders. Their growth was transfered to the growth of their staff's performance, reducing their management requirements but increasing the effectiveness of their unit or organisation. Leadership is a personal humanistic quality that can be groomed and coached to a good level. To attain the level of exceptional requires further personal dedication that can only come from within.

Good managers are developed through dedication and development of experience. Their function is to effectively manage their staff, information and business processes to ensure that the desired outcomes are attained. To become a good manager requires a high level of professional dedication to developing the necessary knowledge, attitude and skills to effectively manage within their position and within their industry. There are numerous tools that are available to people wishing to become good managers, both software and systems based. It is finding the right combination that suites their personality and industry requirements that leads them down the path of becoming a good manager. Staff perform based on the performance of their manager. If the manager shows dedication and an interest in their staffs development and performance, provides clear guidelines to business requirements andprovides an avenue for feedback, staff performance can be managed at a high level. Through effective management staff are able to relate to the benefits of high performance and encourage themselves to perform.
